Local Liverpool arts centre launch music project for disabled
By Bush & Company
A national acquired disability charity has teamed up with Mersey-based Valley Community Theatre to bring arts and music opportunities to young people within the community.
The Paul Bush Foundation Trust, a charity that assists those with an acquired physical disability through an accident or birth injury, is donating nearly £5,000 to the Liverpool arts charity to support a new music-based initiative.
Valley Community Theatre is a modern theatre that provides filming, recording and rehearsal space for young people aged 8 -19 years and adults with disabilities. The donation will support the running costs of its state-of-the-art ‘Soundbeam 5’ assistive music technology that will enable beneficiaries to compose, rehearse, record and produce their own music.
The initiative is the creation of Martin Ball, Director at the theatre. He said: “It’s hard to put into words just how much this donation will help the lives of our beneficiaries. We can’t thank Paul and the team enough and it’s down to their support that some of our less fortunate groups can follow their dreams to make and record their own music.
“We aim to educate, inspire, upskill and bring equality and opportunity to young people and adults with disabilities across Liverpool and the UK through the arts. From health and wellbeing, to dedicated classes, we’ve been lucky enough to add to our resources with this donation and it’s a pleasure to be a part of the charity’s network. We’ll continue to support the on-going work Bush & Company is performing to help those with serious acquired disabilities.”
The Paul Bush Foundation Trust was set up in 2012 by Paul Bush, founder of Bush & Company Rehabilitation which specialises in the assessment of individuals who have acquired severe injuries. Paul himself suffered a serious spinal cord injury in 1975. Paul built the company alongside his daughter Rachel Bush – a specialist spinal injury nurse – both are passionate about improving the lives of people with disabilities.
Bush & Company’s Managing Director, Helen Jackson added: “Our staff raise money for the Paul Bush Foundation Trust throughout the year and it’s very exciting to meet the people who will benefit from the fundraising. This innovative music project for people who have acquired a physical disability will really help to transform their quality of life and we’ll be working with Martin Ball as the project develops to offer our support and expertise.”
