Helen Bird, Occupational Therapist

Helen Bird gained her BSc (Hons) Degree in Occupational Therapy in 1995, from Salford University College. She is a member of BAOT and HPC. She passed her MSc. Module in Paediatric Occupational Therapy in 2000, and has worked as a Paediatric OT since then. Helen's experience includes working with children with specific social, behavioural and learning difficulties, as well as physical disabilities.

Joanne Blackwell, Occupational Therapist

Joanne, from her experience as an Occupational Therapist, has gained skills in specialist Seating Assessments including Wheelchair Assessments and Neurological Splinting of the upper and lower limb. Virginia Bowley, Registered Nurse

Virginia is a Registered General Nurse and a Registered Sick Children’s Nurse with over 20 years of post qualification experience. In 2006 Virginia started working as a Case Manager, working with clients who suffered spinal injuries, amputation, brachial plexus lesion, visual impairment, medical negligence, acquired brain injury, and children with cerebral palsy. Since October 2003 Virginia has acted as an independent assessor under the Code of Best Practice on Rehabilitation.

Annie Broom, Registered Nurse

Annie Broome is a Registered General Nurse who trained at University College Hospital in London. In 1992, having developed an interest in nursing patients with spinal cord injury, Annie was offered a post on the acute unit at the National Spinal Injuries Centre at Stoke Mandeville as a permanent Staff Nurse. Annie joined Bush & Company in 2008 where she is able to utilise her long experience and interest in the needs of spinal cord injured clients to prepare Immediate Needs Assessment Reports and provide Case Management Services.

Karen Brown, Occupational Therapist

Karen Brown qualified as an Occupational Therapist in 1999 at Northampton University with a BSc (Hons) in OT. Following qualification, Karen gained experience in a physcial health setting as part of a rotational post, this included trauma and orthopaedics, medical and surgery wards, urology and inpatient rehabilitation. Prior to training as an occupational therapist, Karen trained and worked as a nurse.

Anna Brown, Registered Nurse

Anna Brown, RGN, has extensive experience in a variety of physical disabilities including spinal cord injury, severe head injury, multiple sclerosis and Huntington's Chorea. Her main interest lies with the long term management of clients with disabilities and she joined Bush & Company Rehabilitation LLP as Case Manager and nursing expert.

Karen Burgin, Registered Nurse

Karen Burgin, RGN, has over 20 year experience in nursing and is a specialist in neurology. In her role as Case Manager, she has organised and implemented a range of care and support packages to clients with a broad range of catastrophic disabilities, including brain injury, children with cerebral palsy and more recently spinal cord injury. Karen Burgin has a particular interest and level of experience in the care management of teenagers with acquired brain injury, particularly in relation to education and behavioural issues.

Anne-Marie Burnett, BSc Hons, qualified as a Chartered Physiotherapist in 1996, graduating from the University of Liverpool with a First Class Honours degree. Anne-Marie is a Brain Injury Case Manager, a role to which she is ideally suited because of her highly effective communication and organisational skills and her wealth of experience within the field of brain injury.

Dean Bush, Social Worker

Helen Clitherow, Registered Nurse

Helen Clitherow is a Registered General Nurse and a Registered Sick Children’s Nurse. In her role she has managed both adults and children travelling all over the country carrying out Initial Needs Assessments on clients whose injuries ranged from minor whiplash to severe life changing injuries such as limb amputations, spinal cord injuries and other catastrophic cases. Case management responsibilities included planning and arranging care, organisation of rehabilitation services, and the establishment of clear channels of communication with all involved.

Helen Cowles, Occupational Therapist

Helen started her OT career with the Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals NHS Trust, gaining a broad range of experience across General Medicine, Trauma, Orthopaedics, Surgery, Community Rehabilitation, Palliative Care and Paediatrics. Helen developed her interest in Neurological Rehabilitation through a senior post in the Neurological Rehabilitation Services team at the Oxford Centre for Enablement.

Joanna Fidler, Social Worker

Since qualification in 2001, Joanna has worked as a member of multi-disciplinary teams within Social Services, Mental health Services and also a private organization where she has worked with young people and their families, adults and older people who have a range of difficulties. These have included mental illness, learning difficulties, offending behaviour/forensic histories, acquired brain injuries, substance and alcohol misuse, relative poverty and social exclusion, housing issues and exclusion from education.

Zorica Gordon, Social Worker

Zorica Gordon graduated in 2000 at Lincolnshire and Humberside University with a BA (Hons) and a Diploma in Social Work. She is registered with GSCC and BASW. Since qualification, Zorica has worked continually as a Locum Social Worker in a variety of fields within statutory settings, before taking up a post as a Senior Social Worker in Adult Care Management.

Amanda Haarhoff, Registered Nurse

Amanda has 30 years experience of working in Africa, where she ran a clinic for underprivileged families, dealing with mal-nutrition, malaria, child health, first aid and AIDS. Amanda now concentrates on specialising in case management and rehabilitation. Her personal involvement with spinal injury gives her valuable insight and sensitivity to the full implications that this injury brings to the injured and their families. Living in countries with no social systems in place has made her inventive, inquisitive and forward thinking on many issues.

Jane Hammond-Hawkins, Registered Nurse

Jane is an experienced clinical nurse manager and lecturer, having worked in a variety of community and hospital based positions, within the NHS and independent sectors. She has a degree in health studies (Nursing) and a Masters degree in Health Professional Education. Her extensive nursing experience and personal involvement caring for people with acquired brain injury enables her to undertake immediate needs assessment and case management. Jane’s experience of ABI includes schooling and the statement system, further education, employment, benefits and direct payments, rehabilitation and enablement thus ensuring that care packages suit the requirements of each client.

Claire Hancock qualified in 1992 after studying at St Loyes School of Occupational Therapy in Exeter. Claire's skills include the rehabilitation of people with amputations, acquired brain injury and spinal cord lesions. Trudi Knight, Registered Nurse

Judith Lowndes, Teacher

Judith Lowndes qualified as a registered nurse at The John Radcliffe in Oxford and went on to work at the Park Psychiatric Hospital for Children with children with specific needs.
