Joanne has worked in the healthcare profession in a wide variety of settings since 1988, attaining her Advanced Diploma in Nursing Studies, and Nursing and Midwifery Council registration in 2003. After gaining her professional registration Joanne specialised in Forensic Mental Healthcare, and has spent the past 12 years working in a Regional Secure Unit providing a service to mentally disordered offenders requiring conditions of medium security. In that time Joanne’s duties have included the direct provision of care to patients, as well as responsibility for care delivered by other members of the Clinical Team and the supervision, mentoring and assessment of Student Nurses.
Joanne has also developed particular interest and expertise in medicines management, and consent to treatment in accordance with section 58 of the Mental Health Act (1983), and has considerable experience of the clinical interface between these.
Joanne has a special interest in medication management; consent to treatment; de-escalation techniques; least restrictive options; use of seclusion; physical restraint; rapid tranquilisation; observation of patients; physical healthcare and health promotion; immediate life support and resuscitation; suicide/self-harm; risk assessment; maintaining clinical boundaries; supervision of junior staff; nursing assessment and care planning; therapeutic engagement; information management and confidentiality and can complete liability reports in these areas.Download CV
