Bush & Co Kids Case Managers

Our Kids Case Managers

Children and young people who experience a catastrophic injury require a different kind of case management and a unique approach. Their needs are not only clinical but developmental, emotional and social; changing as they grow through childhood and adolescence.

They also need someone who treats them as a child and sees their whole potential, keeping the magic and hope of childhood alive.

At Bush & Co Kids, our case managers are specialists in working with children and young people needing case management and rehabilitation. They are carefully selected for their clinical expertise and experience but also for their understanding of the complexities of supporting a child’s rehabilitation while also recognising the wider impact of family life, education and identity.

Paediatric expertise that grows with the child

Children are not ‘small adults’. Our case managers working with children and young people take into account growth, developmental milestones and transitions.

Our Kids case managers understand the importance of:

  • Supporting rehabilitation while protecting a child’s sense of childhood and identity
  • Working collaboratively with parents, carers and siblings
  • Coordinating rehabilitation within the context of school. Friendships and community life
  • Planning ahead for key transition points, including adolescence and the move to adult services.

Experience in complex paediatric injury

Our Kids case managers have extensive experience supporting children and young people with case management following catastrophic injury. This includes working with children affected by:

  • Acquired brain injury
  • Spinal cord injury
  • Limb loss and complex orthopaedic injury
  • Birth injury and developmental delay
  • Major trauma and multiple injuries

Each case manager brings specialist knowledge from their clinical background, allowing them to understand the medical, therapeutic and practical challenges faced by children and their families.

Helping children get to know their case manager

Meeting new professionals can feel overwhelming for children and young people, particularly when they are already navigating the challenges of rehabilitation after a life-changing injury.

To help make those first introductions easier, our Kids case managers create child-friendly ‘All About Me’ profiles. These simple, colourful factsheets introduce the case manager in a way that feels relatable and approachable for children.

Rather than focusing on qualifications or clinical experience, these profiles share small, personal details that children are often far more interested in — such as favourite hobbies, hidden talents, things they enjoy doing and even foods they don’t like.

For example, a child might discover that their case manager enjoys sailing at the weekend, can solve a Rubik’s cube or once wanted to be a teacher when they were growing up.

Our ‘All About Me’ profiles form part of the Bush & Co Kids Toolkit that our children and young people case managers use but you can download them to share with your clients too.
